Jean East Timbs

December 21, 1937 ~ November 6, 2020 (age 82)

Obituary

Jean East Timbs, 82, of Marked Tree, Arkansas died at 10:10 a.m. November 6, 2020 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas of complications from a series of strokes she had suffered since July 2017.  Jean was born December 21, 1937 in Marked Tree to William Raines “Boe” East and Margaret Downs “Inez” East.  She is survived by her husband of 58-years, Cloys Wilford Timbs, two sons, William Calvin Timbs and Mark Andrew Timbs, one sister, Carolyn Marie East, two brothers, William Raines East, Jr. and Eric Alec East (Gloria), granddaughters Mallori Timbs Langlois (Chris) and Emilee Nicole Timbs (Josh) – both of whom she raised – Renee Claire Timbs (Jen), Allie Elizabeth James (Cameron), four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Harry Delano East, Sr., her niece, Lesa East Watson, and her parents.

Jean graduated from Marked Tree High School in 1955.  She worked at Marked Tree Bank for a number of years and retired from Poinsett Production Credit Association (PCA) in 1986.  She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Marked Tree.

She was especially fond of her great-grandsons, Parker and Cooper Evans, whom she also helped raise.  She loved to travel to the Ozarks with Cloys and all four of her grandchildren – when they were younger – and had many an adventure there.

Jean was loved by her family and friends who will remember how vigorous and active she was prior to her illness and her fantastic laugh.  When younger, she enjoyed playing tennis, golf and softball and had a “mean” fastball.  She was also a huge St. Louis Cardinal and Memphis Redbirds fan attending many games with her canvas bag full of ball gloves – handing them out just in case there was a foul ball coming their way.

Cloys, Emilee and her sisters-in-law, Voader Hancock and Lillian Timbs, lovingly cared for her at home during her illness.  Cloys, is a shining example of what “for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part” really means.
